PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently evaluate natural environment by investigating the relation of the ecological meaning of the habitat of the indicator organism species in the natural environment with external environment and to also evaluate the natural environment by adapting many items related to habitat environment or ecology to an evaluation standard so as to fit them to a habitat area to the utmost, especially so as to allow whether the natural environment is a water area environment suitable for organisms in our country to accurately correspond from the aspect of natural science. SOLUTION: The evaluation standard including advantageousness for the existence of the indicator organism species with respect to a plurality of the items related to the habitat environment or ecology of the indicator organism species is preset as the relative numerical values of a plurality of stages. Thereafter, the evaluation numerical values by item corresponding to the indicator organism species with respect to the organism species, which belongs to fishes, benthic organisms, phytoplanktons, zooplanktons or attached organisms in organisms obtained by sampling a water area to be evaluated, are added up with respect to all of items at every species and the environment of the water area to be evaluated is evaluated on the basis of the value obtained by dividing the sum total value by the number of indicator organism species. Since ecological elements are set as evaluation items and these evaluation items are the preliminarily acquired numerical evaluation items of a plurality of the stages at every indicator species, the correlation with other organisms surrounding the indicator organism species or environment can be evaluated and many items related to the habitat environment or ecology are adapted to evaluate the water area environment actually adapted to the utmost.
