PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a porous article endowed with a specific function, by which a uniform packing of a functional material can be attained, even though a porous substrate has uneven thickness and nonuniform porosity. SOLUTION: There are provided the porous substrate 12 having a group of pores, a liquid material 16 containing a functional material which can demonstrate a specific function, and a nipping part 18 through which thesubstrate 12 is passed under application of pressure thereto. The group of pores of the substrate 12 is filled with the material 16 by bringing the substrate 12 into contact with the material 16. The material 12 brought in contact with the material 16 is passed through the nipping part 18. Excess liquid material 16' adhering to the substrate 12 without being packed in the pores is removed under a specified pressure. The liquid material 16 packed in the group of pores of the substrate 12 passed through the nipping part 18 is dried, and the functional material contained in the liquid material 16 is allowed to remain in the group of pores.
