PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic thin film having a high MR ratio and improved in reliability. SOLUTION: The magnetic thin film 15 comprises a pair of magnetic layers 7, 9 and a nonmagnetic intermediate layer 8 sandwiched between the pair of magnetic layers 7, 9, and is configured that sense current flows in the direction perpendicular to the pair of magnetic layers 7, 9 and a surface of the nonmagnetic interlayer 8. The nonmagnetic intermediate layer 8 comprises a first layer 82 containing SnO<SB>2</SB>and a pair of second layers 81, 83 sandwiching the first layer 82 and containing a material having a corrosion potential higher than that of Sn.
