PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an S/N of a reading signal obtained by conversion by a conversion circuit by using an inexpensive photodiode which does not have an avalanche effect in a radiation image reader which receives emitted optically-stimulated luminescence and reads a radiation image recorded in a storage type phosphor sheet. SOLUTION: The radiation image reader which scans the storage type phosphor sheet with excited light, receives the emitted optically-stimulated luminescence and reads the radiation image includes: a light guiding means for guiding the optically-emitted stimulated luminescence to a detection surface; 2<SP>2</SP>or more photodiodes arranged on the detection surface, outputting a signal in accordance with received light quantity, having diagonal length of 2<SP>2</SP>cm or less and having no avalanche effect; the conversion circuits provided in the 2<SP>2</SP>or more photodiodes respectively and converting the signal output by the photodiode; and an adding circuit adding the output signals from 2<SP>2</SP>or more conversion circuits and outputting the reading signal.
