<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing deterioration of image quality by restraining a change of the void in a rear end, and to provide an image forming method. <P>SOLUTION: A control section 60 outputs image data outputted from an image processing section 70 by turning on an LD switch to a laser diode 31 and emits a laser beam to a photoreceptor drum. A density detecting section 90 totals the dots of pixels included in the image data outputted from the image processing section 70, and detects image density based on the dots totaled with the timing of outputting Nth line image data from an image processing section 70. The control section 60 compares the detected image density and a threshold Th. If the image density is greater than the threshold Th, the control section 60 turns off the LD switch 35 at the point in time that the N+αth line image data is outputted.
