<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating device for games easily operated held with one hand, with its indicating direction easily recognized. <P>SOLUTION: A controller 10 includes a longitudinal housing 12, and a grip part 18 is formed at the housing. An upper face 20 is provided with a direction switch 26 in a position operable with the thumb, and a start switch 30 and a select switch 32 behind the direction switch 26. An X-button and a Y-button are arranged side by side on the upper face of the housing, and an imaging information computing unit 54 is provided at the longitudinal front end of the housing so that a direction along the longitudinal direction of the housing can be photographed. A photographing device is formed with a recess 34 in the lower face of the housing, in a position corresponding to the direction switch 26, and the recess includes a trough 36 and two inclined faces 38, 40. The rear inclined face 38 is provided with an A-button 42 operable with the index finger.
