PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device allowing traveling without causing an incongruity feeling even when approaching a vehicle ahead. SOLUTION: This vehicle control device is to control any of operating mechanisms of one's own vehicle in traveling based on the distance between the own vehicle and a vehicle ahead, and is equipped with an approaching condition detection means to detect the approaching condition of the own vehicle to the vehicle ahead (Step 11), a traffic jam detection means to detect the traffic jam occurrence condition (Step 12), and a traffic jam control executing means to update the controlling contents of the operating mechanism based on the results of the detection by the approaching condition detection means that the own vehicle approaches the vehicle ahead and the own vehicle is in a traffic jam zone, or the detection by the traffic jam detection means that the own vehicle enters in the traffic jam zone (step 14).
