PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer achieving preferable properties of a spacer for a flat display, that is to say, required performance thereof such as being high in compression strength although having a columnar shape with a small cross-sectional area, and high in volume intrinsic resistivity to prevent charging, and suitably usable when an inexpensive, lightweight and high-luminance flat display, in particular, an SED is formed. SOLUTION: A product obtained by mixing an inexpensive material such as clay mineral or a resin being a polymer containing silicon and inexpensively obtainable as well with a specific flat extender, and baking the mixture at high temperature is used as this spacer for a display.
