PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reception control method and a wireless communication apparatus in which a reception signal can be suitably processed even when a fast moving terminal carries out initial connection or handover in the environment where cells overlap. SOLUTION: When a signal is received from an antenna #1 (from a non-directional antenna initially), a correlation of a guard interval portion in the received signal is determined by a guard interval correlator 12, and peak output in the guard interval correlator 12 is measured by an output measuring instrument 13. A comparator 14 compares the peak output measured by the output measuring instrument 13 with a set threshold. When the peak output is below the set threshold, an antenna switching control signal is outputted to an antenna switcher 11, and the antenna switcher 11 switches to an antenna #2 of different directivity.
