<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of more easily and precisely detecting progress of sulfur poisoning of an NOx storage reduction catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: If sulfur poisoning of the NOx storage reduction catalyst 4 adsorbing, reducing and converting NOx component in exhaust gas progresses, sulfur component in exhaust gas can not be sufficiently stored and is discharged to an exhaust gas downstream of the NOx storage reduction catalyst 4. The discharged sulfur component adheres on a detector of an oxygen concentration sensor 5 arranged in exhaust gas downstream of the NOx storage reduction catalyst 4 and changes sensor characteristics thereof. Progress of sulfur poisoning of the NOx storage reduction catalyst 4 is detected from the characteristic change of the oxygen concentration sensor 5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
