<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously perform image display output as much as possible even if a failure occurs at cold cathode fluorescent lamps constituting a backlight. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device using a plurality of cold cathode fluorescent lamps 11 as a backlight is provided with a power supply means 13 to supply power to the cold cathode fluorescent lamps 11, a failure detection means 15 to carry out failure detection on the power supply by the power supply means, and a load variable means which changes electric load between the power supply means 13 and the cold cathode fluorescent lamps corresponding to the detection results by the failure detection means 15. Then even if the failure of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp 11 occurs, power supply is not immediately cut off, and by changing the electric load, power supply to the other cold cathode fluorescent lamps 11 which have no failure occurring is continued and the cold cathode fluorescent lamps 11 are lighted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
