<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with various protocols prepared in client applications, while refraining from correcting device modules. <P>SOLUTION: An MFP (multi-functional peripheral) includes a plurality of SDP services, a plurality of SDP adapters, and a device service management system (DSMS). Each SDP service interfaces with one of the plurality of SDP adapters. Each SDP adapter converts messages from the corresponding SDP services into a format that DSMS can understand. DSMS manages service metadata information on the plurality of services prepared by the MFP. In response to a request from a client, SDP service requests metadata from the corresponding SDP adapter. The SDP adapter requests the metadata from DSMS, and the DSMS responds to the SDP adapter, together with the requested metadata.
