<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balloon catheter with excellent biocompatibility without generating pin holes or puncture if the catheter is retained in the stomach for a long period of time at least two months. <P>SOLUTION: The balloon catheter has a rubber balloon in the vicinity of the distal end part of a catheter member having the proximal end part and the distal end part. The balloon catheter is characterized by the rubber balloon part which does not form a whitened part of at least ϕ5 μm when the rubber balloon part is inflated at least ten times and is impregnated in an aqueous solution of pH 1.2-2.4 at 35-45°C for 30 days.
