<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase difference film which is high in surface hardness and surface slidability, has a high light transmission rate, and is excellent in uniformity of optical property. <P>SOLUTION: In the phase difference film having a birefringent layer formed of a non-liquid crystalline polymer, the index ellipsoid of the phase difference film shows a relationship of nx≥ny>nz, and the haze value of the phase difference film is 5% or less. Furthermore, the birefringent layer contains fine particles. It is preferable that the non-liquid crystalline polymer is a polyimide series resin, and that the fine particles are alumina fine particles. In the birefringent layer, it is preferable that the weight proportion of the fine particles is 0.1-10 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the non-liquid crystalline polymer.
