<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time and effort for user manipulation in a personal digital assistant. <P>SOLUTION: A remote controller (personal digital assistant) 1 comprises: a one-seg tuner 13; a display device 12; a wireless LAN transmitting/receiving section 16 for performing data communication over a wireless LAN; an infrared transmitting section 17; a memory 14 for storing various kinds of information; a touch panel 18; and a microcomputer 11 for control which controls respective sections of the device. The memory 14 stores programs or data required for implementing operating modes of the device. The operating modes include: a TV program mode during which a TV program received using the one-seg tuner 13 is displayed on the display device 12; a wireless LAN communication mode during which communication is performed with external equipment using the wireless LAN transmitting/receiving section 16; and a remote control mode during which the external equipment is instructed using the infrared transmitting section 17 on the basis of manipulation information stored in the memory 14.
