PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit renewal of a controlled value by mistake according to operation conditions of an actuator in a control device for a valve system provided with an elastic body generating reaction force in response to operation of the actuator. SOLUTION: The valve system for the internal combustion engine includes the actuator 60 changing maximum lift of an engine valve by operating in an operation range. The actuator 60 is provided with a washer 67 generating reaction force when the same is operated to a mechanism limit position of an operation range thereof in a deformation zone. The control device for the valve system is provided with a learning means executing a control value learning renewing the controlled value of the actuator 60 to the controlled value corresponding to the mechanical limit position by operating the actuator 60 to a mechanical limit position when predetermined learning conditions are satisfied, and a learning restart means restarting controlled value learning after operating to a reverse side of the mechanical limit position when the actuator 60 temporarily stops in the deformation zone during execution of controlled value learning by the learning means.
