<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a fixing device equipped with a fixing rotating body and a pressurizing rotating body, wherein recording material is made to pass through the fixing device so as to remove soiling at least on the pressurizing rotating body, thereby preventing an image defect. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a slip calculation means 132 calculating a slip value (Tm) based on time taken until the recording material P reaches a second recording material detection means 141 from a first recording material detection means 201, and judging whether or not the calculated slip value is abnormal, and an abnormal slip occurring times counting means 133 counting the number of times that the slip value (Tm) calculated by the slip calculation means 132 is judged as the abnormal slip.
