<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate unnecessary gas from mixed gas mainly containing nitrogen, hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and to refine and recover together with nitrogen and hydrogen to have concentration of carbon monoxide in the refined gas roughly same as that in the mixed gas. <P>SOLUTION: This refining method comprises: an adsorption process of introducing the mixed gas mainly containing the nitrogen, the hydrogen and the carbon monoxide into adsorbing columns, adsorbing carbon dioxide and moisture being the unnecessary gas in the mixed gas with an adsorbent, by using a pressure swing adsorption method using adsorbing columns A, B packed with the adsorbent; a pressure equalizing process equalizing the pressure in both adsorbing columns by communicating the adsorbing column having finished the adsorption process with the other adsorbing column; a desorbing and recovering process discharging the gas in the adsorbing columns with the pressure lowered through the pressure equalizing process and recovering the discharged gas in the mixed gas system; and a cleaning process of introducing part of the refined gas led out of the other adsorbing column in the adsorption process to the adsorbing column having finished the desorbing and recovering process as cleaning gas, and discharging remaining gas in the column.
