PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state imaging device which can enhance sensitivity by suppressing the after-image, and to provide an imaging system employing it. SOLUTION: The solid state imaging device comprises a charge holding portion FD for holding optical signal charges, a photodiode PD having a charge storage capacity larger than that of the charge holding portion, a pixel portion 100 where pixels 101 including a transistor M1 for controlling transfer of signal charges from the photodiode to the charge holding portion, a transistor M3 for amplifying the signal charges held in the charge holding portion and outputting the amplified signal charges as a pixel signal, and a reset transistor M2 for controlling connection of the photodiode and a pixel power supply are arranged in matrix, a vertical scanning circuit 200 and a horizontal signal read-out circuit 400 for outputting a pixel signal, and a control section 500 performing connection of the photodiode and the pixel power supply by the reset transistor after transferring signal charges by the transfer transistor before starting exposure.
