PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a retrieval result data display unit for surely displaying data as a result of retrieval for each initial letter, or each initial letter excluding an article. SOLUTION: A music data list of the retrieval result having music data arranged in a predetermined order is input to an externally connected audio device. By discriminating whether a predetermined article such as "The" is attached to the top of the music data, the initial letter excluding the article attached thereto, or the initial letter of the music data are processed to discriminate a capital letter, small letter, double-byte character, single-byte character, and letter with symbol to be of the same letter type. When the initial letters are discriminated to be of the same letter type, the letter is skipped and the next music data is processed in the same manner. When the initial letters are not discriminated to be of the same letter type, the music data is discriminated without skipping.
