PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device allowing control by dividing properly a light source in response to a display area, and a display method. SOLUTION: The display device includes: a display part having the first and second display areas for displaying the first and second images corresponding respectively to the first and second image data; a light source part arranged corresponding to the display part and having a plurality of unit light emitting areas controllable independently; a selection part for selecting the first and second unit light emitting areas corresponding respectively to the first and second display areas, out of the plurality of unit light emitting areas; and a control signal generating part for generating the first and second control signals for controlling the selected first and second unit light emitting areas, based on the first and second image data.
