The vacuum cleaner (10) has an upper part (14) attached to a lower part (12), which forms a dirt collecting container. The upper part accommodates a suction turbine (59) with a horizontally oriented turbine axis (62) for producing suction air flow, where the suction turbine is driven by an electromotor (60). A flat filter (32) is arranged in the upper part and in effective flow connection with the suction turbine over a suction channel (90), which runs linearly. The turbine axis is arranged at a height of an upper side of the flat filter.
