A method of conditioning exterior air for a spray booth 14 comprises sensing dry bulb temperature (20, fig 2) and relative humidity (22) of the exterior air and selecting a set point of the dry bulb temperature and relative humidity based upon minimizing an amount of energy or minimizing a cost of energy required to condition the exterior air. The exterior air is conditioned and subsequently used to carry away coating mist, dust, and contaminants from a spray area 40. A conditioning apparatus 12 to condition the air to a variable set point comprises a system that heats the air via a preheater (26, fig 3), cools the air via a cooling coil (28), humidifies the air via a humidifier (30), and dehumidifies the air via a reheater (32). The set point selection may be based upon future predicted weather conditions that are determined with a mathematical profile of previous weather conditions and weather trends in a localized domain, where the localized domain is a geographic area surrounding a manufacturing plant that includes a spray booth. The spray booth may be used for spray painting vehicles, paint other appliances or children's toys or used a coating booth for applying coatings. |
