Disclosed is a utility layer operating in a multi-touch enabled device that can perform application aware processing of touch data. Applications executing on the device send to the utility layer control instances that define the types of touch data they require from the multi-touch enabled display. The utility layer receives raster touch data from the touch screen and then process the touch data in relation to the control instances. Sent back to the applications is result data in a format requested by the applications. The screen may display images or icons associated with the control instances and the raster touch data indicating which image has been touched by a user. The processing of the raster touch data may include comparing with past touch data to obtain incremental results. The touch data may include a value indicating the pressure or strength of touch. The device may be a mobile phone or a media player. Also disclosed is a software development kit (SDK) to create applications for the multi-touch device. |
