NEEDLED GLASS MAT

The invention relates to a needled glass mat comprising a mineral glass strand sized by a composition comprising water, the solids content of said composition comprising 1% to 30% by weight of a coupling agent and 30% to 99% by weight of polyvinylpyrrolidone. The invention also relates to a process for preparing a mat that comprises a) depositing or projecting sized strands onto a moving belt in order to form a web of said strands which is driven by said belt; then b) needling using barbed needles that pass through said web and that move in the direction of the web at substantially the same speed as the web when they pass through it, with a punch density ranging from 1 to 25 punches per cm2. This process is rapid and effective, and the mat obtained is easily deformed by hand in order to be placed into a mould for manufacturing a composite by resin transfer moulding (RTM).
