The invention comprises inonoazo dyes of formula wherein the amino group is in the 1- or 2-- position of the naphthalene ring, the azo group being ortho to it, X<SP>1</SP> is O, S or NH, Q is H or an alkoxy, alkyl, halo, sulphonic cyano, carboxylic or alkoxycarbonyl group, Y is an organic radical containing 8-18 C atoms and from 4 to 8 conjugated double bonds, up to two of which double bonds may be acyclic and, if present, lie between the 2-carbon atom of the benzazole ring and the ring containing the remaining- double bonds and Z is H or 1 or 2. COOH or SO 3 H groups. The dyes are prepared by coupling 9 diazotized 6-aminobenz-X-azole with an appropriate 2-aminonaphthalene and are intermediates in the preparation of triazoles (cf. Specification 1,236,661). They may be used as orange, red or brown pigments.</p> |
