A portable knife sharpening device comprises a main body 1 and two pairs of beams 4-7, each pair protruding from an opposite end of the main body 1 and supporting a respective roller 2 and 3 with a slit 12 extending therethrough. A strip of abrasive paper is supported by a flat face of the main body 1 and each end is passed through a slit 12 in a roller 2 and 3. Rotation of the rollers 2 and 3 by means of levers 13 and 14 tightens the strip. Each roller 2 and 3 is then locked in place by means of a screw 17 and 18. The beams 4-7 may be pivotally mounted on the main body 1 so they can be folded away when the device is not in use (Figure 2), with the rollers 2 and 3 then being located in respective recesses 21 and 22 in the main body 1. The beams 4-7 abut respective stop pins 8-11 when the device is in use (Figures 1 and 3). Alternatively the beams 4-7 may be permanently attached to the main body 1 (Figure 5). Holes 26-29 in the main body 1 may be used to store rolls of abrasive strip. |
