A system and a method for generating a 3D stereo-scopic image file based on a 2D image media standard are provided to use already verified standard technology about the 3D stereo-scopic image file and simplify the procedure of verification. A system produces and reproduces 3D stereo-scopic image file based on 2D image media standard. A stereo-scopic image file generating apparatus(350) produces a header area including the information of first video data, meta data area including the information of second video data and data area including second video data which is synchronized with first video data and first video data.
