Rail car (SCH) with an emergency exit (NOT) on one of its front sides (FRO), where a driver's control panel (FAP) and a driver's seat (FAS) are located in an end area (END) in the front of the rail oar (SCH), with the emergency exit (NOT) located essentially in the middle of the front end (FRO), and where the driver's seat (FAS) and at least one middle section of the driver's control panel (FAP) can be pivoted from a middle driving positi on located in front of the emergency exit (NOT) (Fig.1) in the direction of a side wall (SEI) to an emergency position (Fig. 2) about an axis that is essential ly parallel to the lengthwise direction of the rail car, so that in the emergen cy position (NOP), an escape area (FLR) is created in the end area (END) that is at least the width of the emergency exit (NOT) and parallel to the lengthwise direction of the rail car.
