A method and an apparatus for generating block-based stereoscopic image format, and reconstructing stereoscopic images from the block-based stereoscopic image format are provided to compress an image efficiently by applying transmission standard technique of block-based. Image blocks of a first position standard time is decided among image blocks which are divided into predetermined size(310). Added image blocks are determined corresponding to the block of the standards viewpoint image of the second position except for the first location(320). A combination image is produced by combining the standard position image blocks, and the determined added image blocks(330).
