A device for clamping a pair of parallel cables 3 during maintenance operations on a hoisting installation comprises a frame 1 which is secured to a support and, for each cable, a wedge in the form of a pair of symmetrical elements 13 arranged around the cable and between an inclined face 1b of the frame and an inclined face 10a of a block 10, the two blocks 10 being movable in the clamping direction by a wedge 11 forced upwardly by a hydraulic actuator 7. The wedge elements 13 have interfitting projections 13c and recesses 13d and are guided in the frame by front plates 5 and 6, and retained by a base plate 2 and a top-plate 4. The wedges have plates 13b, 10b on their sliding surfaces. In a second embodiment, each cable is gripped by two sets of wedge elements 13 arranged to wedge in opposite directions, and the two front plates 5 and front plate 6 are replaced by a pair of plates, Fig. 4 (not shown), each of which has a pair of keyhole slots and a pair of slots on its edge which engage four studs (105a) inserted on the frame. |
