An apparatus and method for transmitting a short message by using a specific button, and a recording medium thereof are provided to improve efficiency in transmitting the short message. An apparatus for transmitting a short message by using a specific key comprises the followings: a function changing part(120) which sets a symbol input function and a recent call list display function in a specific key of a mobile terminal; a character input part(130) which selects one of predetermined symbols according to the number of times the key is inputted, and then inputs the selected character to the short message; and a message transmission part(150) which reads the recent call list from a memory of the mobile terminal, displays the read result on a screen(160), and then transmits the short message to a mobile terminal of a callee.
