<p>Water is syphoned from a constant-level supply container to the cooling enclosure, and from there to a collecting container. The syphon action is primed by a pump, after which it proceeds automatically. In the event of rupture of the inner wall of the cooling enclosure the syphon action is broken and much of the water already in the enclosure driven back to the supply container. The system is designed particularly for cases where the cooling enclosure is exposed to very high temps., where the effects of water leakage through a rupture can be dangerous. Particular applications are to steel making (oxygen lance refining), to collector hoods for gases from converters, and to continuous-flow ingot moulding.</p> |
