PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aspherical copolymer latex which is good at flowability and mechanical stability during a coating process and during manufacture and which is useful as a paper-coating binder capable of providing coated paper excellent in dry pick strength and redispersibility. SOLUTION: The aspherical polymer latex comprises: (a) 20 to 69.5 pts.wt. of an aliphatic conjugate diene monomer; (b) 0.5 to 10 pts.wt. of a water-soluble ethylene monomer; and (c) 30 to 79.5 pts.wt. of another vinyl monomer that can be copolymerized with (a) and (b) components, (a), (b) and (c) being emulsion polymerized with one another, with (a)+(b)+(c)=100 pts.wt.
