In a sliver-ballingunit the sliver is passed through a false-twist tube 1 that is turned in alternate directions as it is traversed across the sliver ball, the entry end of the false twist tube being fitted with a die 17 that grips the sliver in a manner substantially eliminating rotary slip of the sliver as it passes therethrough. The die 17 is interchangeable with others according to the size of the opening required and may be held in place 'by a screw cap 19. Alternatively a single die with an adjustable opening may be used. The false twist tube 1 is surrounded by a gear wheel 12 meshing with one of a plurality of different diameter pinions 6, 7 on a common shaft 14. A single rack 8 is adjustable to mesh with any of the pinions 6, 7 to vary the rotational speed of the tube 1. |
