Disclosed is a method for producing a solid fuel for fuel cells having excellent handling properties and high safety. Also disclosed is a solid fuel for fuel cells having excellent handling properties and high safety, and a fuel cell using such a solid fuel for fuel cells. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing a solid fuel for fuel cells wherein a coating film is formed on the surface of a porous material containing a fuel for fuel cells. In this method, the coating film is made from a polyvinyl alcohol, and the fuel for fuel cells is taken into the porous material before and/or after forming the coating film over the surface of the porous film.
