<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system capable of preventing an excess purge and to provide an operation method of the fuel cell system. <P>SOLUTION: A threshold (a prescribed value 3) judging the period of time of generation of anode passage water is set by using temperature of a fuel cell at starting (S420). When the temperature of the fuel cell is in a prescribed value 1 or more (S430, Yes), generation of water in the anode passage is judged (S460).
