METHOD FOR PROCESSING SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL

The invention relates to technology for processing spent (irradiated) solid nuclear fuel, i.e. uranium dioxide, of nuclear reactors by a metallurgical method for the subsequent safe storage thereof. The aim of said invention is to develop a method for processing a spent (irradiated) solid nuclear fuel, which is free of the above mentioned disadvantages, i.e. a metallurgical processing method which makes it possible to reduce the activity of a processed fuel and to accelerate a spent nuclear fuel reduction process, thereby making the storage and transportation thereof substantially cheaper and environmentally safe.
