LOGGING SYSTEMS AND METHODS WITH TILT COMPENSATION FOR SECTOR-BASED ACOUSTIC TOOLS

Various disclosed acoustic logging systems and methods compensate for log ging tool tilt relative to the borehole axis. Some method embodiments includ e: generating an acoustic signal that propagates along a borehole in a forma tion; receiving a signal from each of a set of azimuthally-arranged acoustic transducers; processing the signals to compensate for logging tool tilt; an d determining a property of the formation based at least in part on the comp ensated signals. Some tool embodiments include an internal controller that p rocesses signals from different directions to determine and correct time off sets that are attributable to logging tool tilt. Thereafter, the tilt-compen sated signals can be used to measure formation and borehole parameters which may be associated with position and displayed in the form of borehole logs and/or images.
