<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a motor with maximum efficiency by V/f control. <P>SOLUTION: The direct-current power of a direct-current power supply 2 is converted into alternating-current power through an inverter circuit 3 and a motor 4 is driven to rotationally drive a motor load 5. The peak value of direct current is detected by a current detecting means 6 and the inverter circuit 3 is V/f-controlled by a controlling means 7. A torque current is computationally estimated from the direct current peak value, inverter output frequency, and output voltage.
