PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To well balance solving the problem that time taken for a camera shake correction function to rise is long when imaging is started from a power-saving mode, and achieving low power consumption. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging means for picking up an image of a subject; a shake detecting section that detects a camera shake and outputs a detection signal; a first arithmetic section that receives the input of the detection signal obtained by the shake detecting section and extracts a low frequency component from the detection signal; a second arithmetic section that receives the input of the low frequency component extracted by the first arithmetic section and the input of the detection sinal obtained by the shake detecting section, and calculates an amount of correction of the camera shake by using at least the low frequency component and the detection signal; and a control means that exerts control such that in an imaging mode in which an image is picked up by the imaging means, the first and second arithmetic sections are operated whereas in a non-imaging mode in which an image is not picked up, the first arithmetic section is operated and the second arithmetic is not operated.
