PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine whether or not knocking occurs. SOLUTION: An engine ECU executes a program including a step (S102) for detecting the vibration intensity of an engine, a step (S104) for detecting a vibration waveform of the engine on the basis of the intensity, a step (S114) for calculating a correlation coefficient K by employing a total of values obtained by subtracting a positive reference value from an intensity of a knocking waveform model as an area S of a knocking waveform model when engine rotation speed NE is smaller than a threshold value NE(1), and for calculating the correlation coefficient K by employing the entire area S of the knocking waveform model when the engine rotation speed NE is a threshold value NE(1) or more, and steps (S120, S124) for determining whether or not knocking occurs by utilizing the correlation coefficient K. The correlation coefficient K is calculated by dividing the sum of difference between intensities in the vibration waveform and knocking waveform model by the area S. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
