PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for working a wire material, which apparatus can carry the wire material with a simple configuration while suppressing the deformation of the surface of the wire material. SOLUTION: A clamping unit 360 comprises a first block 361A and a second block 361B which can reciprocatingly move, an inserting section 364A which is arranged between the first block 361A and the second block 361B, and can insert the wire material 210 thereinto, guide surfaces 365A, 365B which are continued to the inserting section 364A, and are opposed to each other, and are tilted so as to separate from the outer peripheral portion of the wire material 210 with the distance toward a flaw detector, a first driving section 363A and a second driving section 363B which can reciprocatingly move relative to the first block 361A and the second block 361B, and a first holding member 368A and a second holding member 368B which are provided on the first driving section 363A and the second driving section 363B, and have cam surfaces 368A1, 368B1 to be brought into contact with the guide surfaces 365A, 365B, and have holding surfaces 369A, 369B opposed to the outer peripheral surface of the wire material 210.
