PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a base tread improving processability and fuel cost, without lowering the durability, and to provide a tire produced by using the rubber composition as a base tread. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a base tread of a tire contains a rubber component containing 0.5-50 wt.% deproteinized natural rubber having a total nitrogen content of≤0.3 wt.% as an index of proteins and 50-99.5 wt.% natural rubber and 5-70 pts.wt. (based on 100 pts.wt. of the rubber component) of a carbon black having a nitrogen-adsorption specific surface area of 25-125 m<SP>2</SP>/g and a DBP oil absorption of≥70 mL/100 g.
