A game machine and a method for playing are provided to increase the operation speed of the game machine. A game machine for shortening the play time comprises: a display(101) arranging a plurality of symbols; an input unit(114) receiving manipulation from the outside; and a programmed controller in which the variable display of the symbols is started based on the fixed condition, symbols are rearranged from the point of time when the designated time passes after the variable display starts, winning is determined based on the relation of the rearranged symbols, and the designated time is switched between the basic time and the special time to be shorter than that of the basic time based on the manipulation received by the input unit.
