PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp abnormality detecting device capable of detecting occurrence of flickering state of a fluorescent lamp easily and precisely. SOLUTION: A photo diode 4 is arranged nearby a fluorescent lamp 1 and a waveform rectification circuit 3 connected to an AC power supply 2 of the fluorescent lamp 1 outputs a clock pulse to a sampling circuit 5 at every quarter cycle of the AC power supply 2. Then, the sampling circuit 5 outputs a digital signal at every quarter cycle of the AC power supply 2 according to an output signal of the clock pulse and the photo diode 4, and based on the output state of the sampling circuit 5, an abnormality detecting circuit 7 judges the status of the fluorescent lamp 1.
