PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct backlight device capable of keeping luminance uniformity without degrading the luminance of a backlight. SOLUTION: This direct backlight device is provided with a dimming plate 3 between linear light sources 4a and 4b and a diffusion plate 1. The dimming plate 3 has prism arrays 2a and 2b for adjusting traveling directions of light rays emitted from the linear light sources 4a and 4b in predetermined regions around areas immediately above the linear light sources 4a and 4b and, in the prism arrays 2a and 2b, surface Pas of prisms P are directed downward, and longitudinal directions of the prisms P are set parallel to longitudinal directions of the linear light sources 4a and 4b.
