<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen absorbing alloy for an alkaline storage battery, a manufacturing method thereof, and an alkaline storage battery capable of having high output characteristics considerably exceeding the conventional range by examining a formation ratio of an A<SB>2</SB>B<SB>7</SB>structure and an A<SB>5</SB>B<SB>19</SB>structure. <P>SOLUTION: The hydrogen absorbing alloy for an alkaline storage battery includes an element R selected from rare-earth elements including Y except La and the group IV and an element M consisting of at least one or more of Co, Mn, and Zn. General expression for the hydrogen absorbing alloy is LaαR<SB>1-</SB>α<SB>-</SB>βMgβNiγ<SB>-</SB>η<SB>-</SB>εAlηMε(here,α,β,γ,ηandεsatisfy following conditions; 0≤α≤0.5, 0.1≤β≤0.2, 3.7≤γ≤3.9, 0.1≤η≤0.3, and 0≤ε≤0.2), and the A<SB>5</SB>B<SB>19</SB>type structure is 40% or more in a crystal structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
