PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for functionalizing a polysaccharide without the introduction of substituents by a covalent bond, a functionalizedα-1,4-D-glucan and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This functionalizedα-1,4-D-glucan is obtained by forming an inclusion compound by the clatheration of an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain of a compound having the aliphatic hydrocarbon chain within the helix structure of theα-1,4-D-glucan having at least≥50 degree of polymerization. The functionalizedα-1,4-D-glucan has functions and properties which are not available in the originalα-1,4-D-glucan. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
