PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely prevent an object for sewing from being turned up and to form beautiful pattern seams by reducing preset sewing speed to prescribed low speed on the way of sewing patterns at a preset speed. SOLUTION: When a starting switch is turned on (S11: Yes), a sewing machine motor is driven to rotate at the preset sewing speed (S12-S15). When a low-speed command switch is turned on by an operator (S15: Yes) since there is a possibility of a part of an applique cloth being turned up on the way of sewing patterns, the sewing machine motor is driven to rotate at low speed (S17-S19). Then, the operator can sew patterns while pressing the part slightly ahead of the sewing position with a rod-like presser (not indicated) so that the part of the applique cloth is not turned up.
